I feel good about being a Band Booster
(and you should too!)
Why I Boost
by Colls Parent ’21 and ’23
I didn’t participate in band in high school, and I still don’t play an instrument. But I have been around long enough to admire the benefits of introducing music into a child’s life. I believe it was Plato who said that music and rhythm find their way into the secret places of our soul. I don’t know anything about any souls, but music does seem to find its way into a student’s outlook, their habits, their social networks, and more.
Marching band is an expensive endeavor–instruments, uniforms, equipment, transportation, and instruction. It’s a wonder we are able to do what we do with what we have. Big aspirations, many needs, small budgets, great kids. That is why Band Boosters are so important. We are parents, alumni, and interested residents and businesses. We volunteer, we plan, we promote, and we work to bring resources in support of our CHS band members.
People have choices for how and where they spend their money and I can’t say this is most important thing ever, but it IS important. Funds raised by CHS Band Boosters help support students in need, underwrite band expenses, and help provide a positive experience for ALL band members. It IS important and it DOES make a difference which is why I am so THANKFUL for the folks who give their time, talent, and treasure to support our kids…our marching, melodic, flag-tossing, rifle spinning, diverse, funny, quirky, intelligent, interesting kids. Being a CHS Band Booster is an honor and one I do happily. These kids, this activity–this is why I boost, (and hope you will too!).
